Scent Tracking Dogs and Rescue Work

One scent tracking dog is worth ten humans when it comes to searching and finding someone lost in the woods or in a city. These dogs are amazing in how they can take a sample of a person’s scent, and then go and track that the lost or drowning individual.

Newfoundlands and Labradors can actually find someone who is drowning. The person’s scent rises to the surface of the water and the dogs are able to smell it and rescue the person.

It takes a year of training twice a week before it can be determined if your dog is ready for a mission. They have to be able to focus on the search in the midst of any number of chaotic and dangerous situations such as a flood, earthquake, or train wreck.
