Before You Choose a Dog Behavior Training Program

Before you choose a dog training program there are some things you need to consider. First, does the person have any dog training experience? Second, do they have a proven track record?

You can try to talk with other dog owners who were clients of the dog trainer. If the trainer is hesitant about giving out names of past clients or denies you access to past clients that is a hint that this is not the trainer for you.

You can also visit a class and watch the trainer in motion. Does he or she give clear commands, or is it hard to follow what they are saying?

Every dog needs some training. But training is not enough. You need a trainer who knows dogs and how to work with them and with their owners. You want one that will work not only with the dog but who will train you to interact with your dog in a way that promotes obedience.

To discover ten things you need to know before you start looking for a trainer read the article “The Ten Most Important Things You Need to Know Before You Choose Your Dog Behavior Training Program,” because training your dog involves more than training him to follow commands. It involves “behavior” training.
