Why are People Abandoning Their Dogs?

My mom and I went to the dog shelter this week and picked up another Pug for a dog rescue. He is eight years old and had to scoot around by using his front paws. His hind legs were basically useless because of a hip problem, I think it was a fracture. Whatever it is, the vet believes it can be corrected.

This Pug was at the shelter because his owners moved and neglected to take him along. When the new renters moved in they found him, left alone and starving, and called the shelter. It’s unbelievable how some people will treat their pets.

He is such a sweet dog. Thankfully the rescue took him. No one else had shown any interest in him because of his injury, I suppose.

But it’s not just older, injured dogs that are being abandoned. A friend told me that her husband saw a van pulled off to the side of the road. Next thing he knew, they had pushed a puppy out the door and sped off. He picked the puppy up and took it home.

That puppy was very fortunate to have been seen by a good samaritan. The couple took him to the vet for a checkup and found a good home for him.

He too, was a very sweet dog. That’s his picture there to the right. He was only about sixteen weeks old when his family left him on a busy street to fend for himself.

It seems that many people have become accustomed to taking the easy route, the road of least resistance. It’s real sad.

Thankfully there are many people who still care about those that need help, like animals. If it wasn’t for people like my friend and the volunteers at the rescue, dogs and cats would be in a terrible spot.
